Happy Birthdays!

Today is both Eva and Sebastian's 5th birthday. Contrary to my usual style, Eva only got a store-bought present this year. I had grand plans, but when I ended up at the airport with Shell in Denver, I found a cute realistic-looking stuffed Yorkshire Terrier puppy. It seemed a perfect gift for that dog-loving girl, and so easy to send it home with Shell, ensuring it got there on time. Sorry Eva! There's always Christmas.
For Sebastian, I ended up making him something, but something much easier and faster than the dinosaurs I made him last year. I also made some for Eva, and I can't find pictures of either of them anywhere. I give you: A box. That's it. Pretty much.
I got the idea from Amy Karol over at Angry Chicken. It's just a cigar box I got at Micheal's, decorated with some embellishments, of course. I filled it with a few random things that I thought might interest him, but mostly I thought it was just a cool place for a little person to collect and carry all of their random 'treasures' that so often look like junk and have no place to go.

I thought, given more time and resources, it would be really cool to make some themed boxes. Jewelry or bead kits, stationary, knitting, sewing-really, any hobby or interest. So, hopefully kids like it as much as I do, because they are everything that is good about handmade: Inexpensive, personalized, unique, thoughtful, fun to do and easy to make.
(Random contents of this one include: envelope affixed to the lid with cards inside, personalized notebook, foam airplane kits, crazy paperclips, a couple of cool containers for his stuff, a tiny flashlight key chain and a plastic tape measure. I know, kind of crappy, but I had to work with what i had. Plus, it's not really about that, it's about the stuff he's going to put in it.)
Happy 5th Birthday Eva & Sebastian!!

No way! I would have adored a collection box with my name on it when I was little! Heck, I would adore one right now.

The box for Sebastian is even cuter in real life. It was a big hit. He's determined to find some small bugs to fill the glass vial. I can only hope he doesn't want to keep them for too long...gulp.

Not lame at all! Sabastian is lucky to receive such a treasure trove.

WAY cute and super exciting and crative for a young man! I love it.

Hope the bugs don't make the cut, but I'm pretty sure they will....he he.
