Another Good Choice

I went to the gym yesterday. I didn't work out, mind you, but I went and looked around. (That's a start, right?)I went in to get a guest pass so I could try it out and see if I can really commit myself to going. I am giving myself these 3 weeks that my pass is for to see if I can discipline myself to go at least 3 times a week to start. (ultimately maybe I'll go as much as 5, but we'll see about that.) It's actually a really nice gym, and it's kept in great condition. I think it would be really great for me if I could develop regular exercise as a habit, so I'm going to give it my best shot. I'd either have to go at the crack o' dawn around 5:30, or wait until Bella woke up and go around 8:00 and put her in the day care they have. I checked it out and it seems like a nice facility, and I wouldn't really hesitate putting her in there, except I feel a little bit guilty thinking of her in there for even 1-2 hours everyday... (If I ever got to that point.)Maybe she'd have fun, who knows? These three weeks will be the test to see if I can justify spending the money on the membership, so we'll see... I'll keep you posted on my progress and possible failures. (That's a great attitude, isn't it?)

YOU CAN DO IT!!! I used to HATE working out, but then I found the perfect recipe and now I love it. I actually feel bummed that I haven't found a way to work it back into my schedule since having Henri. But here is what I do: the elliptical trainer (the BEST!) for 45-60 min and I watch tv (I'm sure your gym has them too)or I read (bad magazines or great books - takes your mind off what you are doing). It is one of the ways that I don't feel guilty about watching (mind you, I watch a LOT of tv even when not exercising... but at least I don't feel guilty then!), then I reward myself by spending like a half hour just streching and relaxing. I did that for a good 3 months until I finally worked in free weights 3x/week and 100 sit-ups everyday (I worked up slowly to that too!)Go slowly and find the things you actually like to do. Don't just do the stair-stepper because you know it burns a lot of calories (by the way, I think that thing was invented by a masochist!). I think that's key, because if you burn yourself out in the first few weeks you will just confirm how much you hate working out.

Way to be proactive and check into the gym! I didn't know their guest passes were good for 3 weeks, that's a decent amount of time to let you see if you like it or not.

As far as taking Bella to the gym, I know my sister Robyn's kids always loved to go play there while she worked out so that might be a fun activity for her. Of course, I've also heard several people say that their kids get a cold every time they go, so maybe 5:30am might be the best option. Hmmm. Either way it's cool that you can go if you choose to do so. Good luck and let us know how it goes (photo documentation perhaps?).

Good for you!! Hope you can stick with it! As you know, I have been excercising for year...it is part of my lifestyle. I go 3 times a week and don't feel good if I don't go. Like Ashley, I do the eliptical trainer and also the stationary bike. That consists of my cardio...also do some other light stuff, situps and stretching. I think Bella might have a good time with the other kids. Having a TV is a must to take the mind off! Hope it works out for you.

I love going to the gym. The 24 Hour Fitness, I love the classes and just using the machines. Hope you like it, let me know what you decide

When I used to go to the gym, I really quite enjoyed it. I would do the elliptical and then a bike for awhile. Then weights and sit-ups. Wish I could get back to that... I took Lucas to the day care at my gym quite a few times when he was about the same age as Bella. He seemed to really like it.

Very excited for you! I hope you can stick with it these three weeks and find something that you mesh with. I am loving the whole book on tape thing, so maybe try that while working out if you feel the need for a distraction. Good luck!

AUGH! I want to want to go the gym but feel overwhelmed by all the equipment that I don't know how to use. Not to mention the fact that I don't own a trendy pair of tennis shoes. Where do I begin? I admire you for taking the plunge and only wish we lived closer so that I could tag along and learn the ways of the physically fit.

Believe it or not, when you were a "youdoo gir" (Jessie talk)Grandma and I used to go to a dancercize class! I used to take you along and you loved the nursery! You were about 18 months I think! She'll probably love it!

Jessie, you proabably aren't reading this posting by now... but I just checked out your blog and thought I would comment. The 24 hour in Provo is excellent. Now that I am across the world, I can truly appreciate what I had. The people in the Kids Club are really sweet and love the kids. My kids always enjoyed it there (they would get upset if I went to the gym without them) and they never got sick from going there. About exercise, start slowly and don't expect too much of yourself. It's not like you have to be an Olympic athlete the day you walk in the door. I loved the other moms I would see there every day. They are real people, not intimidating and scary. I hope that you decide to do it. The gym here is $80/month and not even as big/nice. I have to pay $2.50 per kid per hour for the Kids Club!!! Enjoy Utah living while you can :-) Good luck

I have a really hard time making it to the gym as well as paying a fee, so I bought the Winsor Pilates DVD set and a mat and I really love it. The great thing is that there is a 20 minute version and an hour long version. The 20 minnute version is great, really works you out, and is over before you know it. I also like my exercise ball and augment the pilates with it sometimes as well as my 5 pound hand weights. Belieive me, I'm not that good at it, but I always feel good when I do it. Good luck!
