My first "Sunday-style" Post

I never post Jill's Sunday style posts, because I never feel like I really have much of import to say or add, but I'm going to try, starting now:
Today has been a great Sunday. First of all, like Jill, I bore my testimony in sacrament meeting today. There was a pause, and I felt the Spirit's nudging to get up there. I of course proceeded to rationalize why I shouldn't get up there, how I had nothing to say, and no one wanted to hear from me anyway. Then I thought some of the same things that Jill said- I need to do this so that my family, and the congregation, and most important, the Lord, knows that I have a testimony. (not to mention myself!) I thought of the last time that I did, and I remembered when Timm and I went to the temple a year ago last November. Oh wait- I did at Bella's blessing- That's not SO bad, but that was still last July- too long ago! Anyway, then I thought: I don't have to have a great story, or any witty anecdotes (people usually don't...) I simply need to say the few things that consist of a true testimony. So I did. (Here's the paraphrased version)I said that I know Jesus Christ was my Savior and Redeemer and that He died for us and lives again. I know that Gordon B. Hinckley is a true prophet of God, and that the gospel was restored by the prophet Joseph Smith. I know that the Book of Mormon is the word of God, and that Heavenly Father will perform miracles in our lives.
Nothing exiting or funny, just the things I know to be true, and I'm so glad that I did.
Another comment from my friend Diana that I liked, was "faith doesn't keep." If we aren't continually working on our faith, it will in essence, go bad. Interesting, huh?
Another thought that I had in sacrament meeting: A new kind of good mail. I thought about this for years, and am ashamed that I haven't done it for years, but I am going to start sending at least 1 card a week to someone in our ward. Like today, someone bore their testimony and I just loved it so I am going to send her a card thanking her for doing it and getting to know her just a little bit. There's usually at least one talk, testimony, or act that makes me want to acknowledge someone on Sunday, so I'm going to *try* to start acting on it!

Great post Jessie, way to give in to The Spirit and take that long walk to the pulpit.

I think sending cards to people from church is a great idea. I write names down in my church notebook each week as I think of reasons to send them to people. Regretably, I haven't been good about following through on that. I think this is because I feel the urge so strongly while at church but then go home and take a nap instead of writing them. This is a huge mistake on my part and I've been trying to remedy this. Today I left church wanting to write to our awesome music leader in primary because she's so great and makes the experience so spiritual and fun. I also want to write to her son, he's in my new primary class and he sings like you wouldn't believe. He knows all the words to all the songs and sings at the top of his little 11 year old lungs. I love it, and always want to sit next to him so I can hear him.

Anyway, it's a great idea and I hope you're better at following through with it than I have been.

That was a great post, Jess, and I am so proud of you for bearing your testimony. And I think that is is better that you didn't have any funny anecdotes or anything. That means that you truly let the Spirit guide you and you spoke from your heart. Way to go!
I think it is a great idea to send thank-you cards to people in your ward. I have recieved a few of those. The best one, though, was shortly after I got married, a woman in my new ward sent a card to my parents (I have no idea how she knew my maiden name or who my parents were--it must have taken some investigating.) Anyway, she told my parents that she was impressed with me and that they had raised a great daughter. Very lofty praise, and it made both me and my parents feel great. I don't think that I will ever forget that.

Thanks for sharing your testimony--both in Sacrament meeting and here, for those of us who were not able to attend your ward. It strengthens me to hear the testimonies of others--especially those I love.

I love the card idea! When Mark was bishop we made a goal for both of us to write one note per week to lift someone in our ward. It takes so little time but alas, like Jill, I often choose to come home and nap instead. You've inspired to get back in the habit! Thanks.

I'm glad you did a Sunday post, I always enjoy hearing and feeling the thoughts of others.

I decided today also that I was actually going to send the noted I think of writing. Like Jill, I jot them in my notebook...but then later I feel corny and don't do it. On my way home I was thinking of the two people I am going to send them to this week. I like the idea of one a week, I am going to try to do better, as a words of affirmation girl this shouldn't be so hard for me.

I have the same plan, Jess! I often think of people I want to send a note to, only to forget until I go back to church the next week and see them. Now I'm writing down a list in the book you made for me, and I'm going to improve! This week: the woman who spoke in sac. mtg. today that inspired me so.

I really enjoyed your testimony. I love testimonies that are just pure, like your's was.
I enjoyed sitting next to you in Sunday School.
That is a really good idea to send a letter a week. You are such a thoughtful person.
