Weekly Weigh-In

Like Michelle, I thought I would post the results of my weekly weigh-in. I'm not neurotic, just on a diet. (or maybe both...) I lost 1 lb, which isn't too bad considering I was kind of ambivalent this week. Not bad, but not super conscientious. I want to lose about 6.5 more. I'll keep you posted! For any of you exercisers- I envy you. That is something I still have not undertaken since I had Bella. I don't want to, but I want to want to. I just don't know what to do. I don't have a gym membership, and it's too cold and dark to go outside before Bella gets up. (also, I hate to run although I want to like it) I don't have any equipment at home, and no videos that I like. So for anyone who exercises, good for you, and tell me what you do. How do you find motivation? I am someone who at least for now does not enjoy excercing, only the results it brings. Anyone have any good DVD's I should know about? (And nobody better tell me weird things like doing squats while you brush your teeth at night, or lifting soup cans while you cook. I'm not that weird. Or desperate.)

Hey Jessie, I have nothing helpful to contribute to your posting but I read it and admire your discipline. I sorely wish I only had 6.5 pounds to lose (maybe when I was a freshmen in high school I could have said that). Anyway, cool photo and good luck. (Have you tried clenching your butt cheeks while doing the dishes?)

Man, I wish I could lose at least another 6.5 lbs. too. In terms of the exercise thing, I have to say I am not always super motivated to do so - the holidays killed me. But I am workin on it. Couple of things that help: 1) For when I don't go to the gym, Dance Dance Revolution. In all seriousness, if you want to come play with me some afternoon, and bring Bella, that would be totally cool. It's always fun to play with other people. And don't worry about not knowing how to play - it took me a few weeks before I was able to start getting the hang of it. The beauty of "work out" mode on the game is that you can't lose - so you can suck it up all you want, and just hop around like a fool to burn calories if you can't make the steps. The other day I played for about 20-25 minutes, and burned 250 calories. 2) When I go to the gym, its either fun to go with a friend, or I take a book with me, and my iPod to listen to. Honestly, I have done some substantial book club reading at the gym ;)

I too hated running but knew that it was my only hope since I hate the work out dvd stuff and really can't go to a gym with my schedule and Mya. One day I started walking, Mya in her stroller, and just added on a block or two every day. Then after about a week, I would jog- not run -short distances. Like look at a tree and just jog to that tree. And gradually I made the distances longer. I think I hated it the first 2 weeks, seriously, but was desperate. I don't really think there are any tricks, you just have to do it. It took Mya a couple days to really 'enjoy' the walks and I would just bring along snacks for her and try to point out things she knows like dogs and the like. I would also suggest going with a friend as it helps to a) keep you going consistently and b) help you not to slack and just walk all the time. Now that it is cold, I just go whenever there is a good day and try to go longer on those days....K- I'm done blabbing.

Ohhhh. I am having the same problem. I want to want to work out, I'm just not there yet. I know it would help so much, though. Did you ever get that Core DVD? I have been contemplating making a little spiral notebook (maybe index cards) that has all the exercises that I rip out of magazines like Cooking Light. Maybe I could flip through and do one or two sets every day? It's not cardio, though. LOVE the photo -- where did you get that?

I have the same problem too, except I actually want to work out, but have no gym membership, can't afford it right now and also can't run cause the neighborhood I live in is not so great. But I discovered how fun the excersise ball is and how in so few minutes you can be on your way. I mean not cardio wise, but toning wise.

Jessie, you're my hero! I'm very proud of you--and you should be so proud of yourself! I think I have told you this before but I absolutely LOVE the FIRM exercise videos/DVDs. You get lots of cardio training and you use hand weights so you build lots of muscle, too. Also--it uses the "fanny lifter" for leg presses and can I just say...if you stick with it, it works. You're welcome to borrow the whole system from me if you want, seeing as how I just got a gym membership. Cool picture; I love reading your blogs.

Shell- I'm glad you asked about the picture. Timm saw it and said it was 'visual plagerism' b/c I just copied it from a link I found on Google Image search. That's how I get all the images that are not my own, and I suspect Jill and others do likewise. What's the big deal? Timm said it was copywrited, and it would be the same as publishing a page out of a book, to which I replied- "so what's the big deal?" I don't get it. What does everyone think- 'visual plagerism' or free game?

I think if you were trying to make money off it or passing it as your own work, that it would matter. Since you are doing neither, keep on keepin' on IMO.
