Since being a stay-at-home mom, I have viewed weekends as just like any other day. I never did anything special, Timm wasn't really around any more, and it merely caused a disruption in my typical tv-watching schedule. (Too many infomercials and cartoons.) Not so anymore.
In the last year Timm was able to quit his former retail job that required him to work Sundays and get hired on at the dive shop so he is always home on Sundays. This is the first and greatest change in my weekend repetoire. We get to go to church together, although today we are home due to Bella's constant snot rivulets and phlegmy cough. We actually get an entire day each week to see eachother. (Although in all honesty, I spend a fair amount of time each Sunday getting in a Bella-supervised nap.)
The next change that occurred was setting up a weekly game-night with Robin, Mark, Hannah, and Lincoln. We do that each Saturday night, and I love it! The only downfall is that we have to make sure to wrap it up early enough so that our motivation to get up for church in the morning isn't sapped. (hence the need for the Sunday nap) I love the chance to get together with friends, do something fun, and it turns out, I really like games! (I just don't like to be competitive...)
And last but not least, Timm and I have instated a date night for us each Friday night. We set aside that night to do nothing but something together- no homework, no calls, no scrapping- but together. The only sometimes down-side of this is that it pretty much always consists of us watching something at home since we lack a babysitter. When we were enjoying 'Lost', that was fine by us- When we're through with that we'll have to find new entertainment. We set up camp-out style blankets on the floor and moved the furniture, thanks to Robin's suggestion. (We also discussed the fact that we hope our kids are satisfied with that type of camping only, as that is as far as our desires go.)
So weekends are picking up for us. I actually have a series of events that I look forward to, and get to spend some quality time with my little family.

We had a fun time with you guys last night. I haven't laughed so hard in a long time, it was great!
It's great that Timm is home on weekends now and that you can spend that time together. Game nights are fun, and that interactions with friends is restorative and enjoyable.
As for your Friday night dates with Timm, I think you should switch off being in-charge of the date each week so that you take turns planning what you'll do. Babysitters and dates out are too expensive, plus everything is crowded anyway, so I think planning these dates at home is a good plan. You could get more shows on DVD through Netflix (or through friends, Marc has tons) and continue your living room camping or you could get creative and figure out other fun "together" type things to do at home. I don't know why I feel creative and happy for this possiblity for you, but never really consider this for me. Perhaps I'll take my own advice. Either way, it's great that you have that time together now.
It's great when weekends feel different from the rest of the week. Mine are just starting to change in that direction and it is great. Marc and I enjoy working on cleaning/organizing projects together on the weekends when time and kids permit. The boys like to watch movies as a family with popcorn and m&ms. We very rarely do dates because of the expense of babysitters, but maybe we should adopt your date-at-home plan. Usuaslly we end up watching a movie together.
I love weekends...and all I can think of is...WHERE ARE WE GOING??? I have to leave the house...since I am in it all the time! I am also excited because it is the time when we eat out...and I love to eat out...so it is always fun to do that out of routine!
I am finally looking forward to weekends again since I will be home. Usually we try to spend Friday and Sunday night together doing whatever, usually a movie. I really like that you guys use Fridays to reconnect and I might see if Linc would be up for making Sundays our date night. We used to work on projects all the time, like cleaning the garage or whatever, so may be we could add things like that in there. I look forward to our game nights and hope that we will get them back on a more regular schedule now too. I was thinking about you guys this weekend and hoping that you were having fun.
Weekends have changed this past year for us, because Adam's schedule has changed and he is home at night. Also, I finally quit working at BR so that is nice.
We usually do a kid swap with another couple, so we will babysit on Friday night and have Saturday night off, or visa versa. I usually try and offer babysitting to as many people as possible, since I'm already home with my kid, and the babysitting swap kid, it makes sense. It is so hard to find babysitting and I've always appreciated someone actually volunteering services.
Sundays are always busy with meetings, meetings, meetings. But, we have tried to have at least 1 or 2 couples over for dinner a couple of times a month. I like cooking for other people, and it is nice getting to know the other couples in the ward. It also helps to not have to find a babysitter, but you get to socialize.
I love how weekends can change up ordinary life! And for Jessie and Michelle: I am most willing to babysit your kids free of charge if you and your husbands want to leave the house for the evening. It's always fun to stay at home (you are like I am in that hermit-like way), but it is sometimes fun to get out for a bit. Plus, seriously, who wouldn't want to spend time with Bella and Eva! I'd pay you to spend time with those babies!
Sounds like you have some good ideas. We usually try to do something fun on the weekend. My parents take the kids Friday nights. This weekend we are going to see Peter Pan at the Scera Shell. They always have fun things going on if you like that kind of stuff. My husband especially likes going out, while I am a staying at home fool. Sometimes he'll ask what I want to do and the response will be "stay home and clean the house." Can you think of anything more fun than that? Well, he can. But honestly don't you feel that way sometimes. The kids are gone and I can actually get some real work done.
The last three weekends I have been very busy- I was performing for two (and had lots of visitors in our studio apartment) and then this past weekend I went home for my Dad's 50th birthday. This weekend, I want to DO NOTHING- sleep in late, meander over to the flea market a few blocks away, eat some Indian food, go to the movies... when I first moved to NYC, we went OUT ALL THE TIME (but then we realized we couldn't afford that, haha). Last summer I had a lot of friends who had fun PR internships so we would go to all these fancy night clubs and magazine parties... but now, to me, a good weekend in sleeping in really late, getting brunch, and then getting my dog voyeurism on at a park.
