Semantics

First of all, do the spammers really think I'm going to be stupid or vain enough to open an email with this sender and title?
"Guess Who OMG, Some one has a Crush on You"
Let it be known that to my knowledge, none of my friends use the term 'OMG' and if someone does have a crush on me, (the likelihood of which decreases everyday)i don't want to know about it being a married woman and such. Also- anyone trustworthy would not misspell 'someone.'
Incidentally, I still don't feel comfortable referring to myself as a 'woman' per se- for better or for worse, I don't feel that old. I always say 'girl' when referring to anyone in my age bracket. (No, I don't really know what that brackets specifies, having just made it up.) I used to tease Robin when we worked together because I would hear her on the phone saying: "Let me check with the other ladies..." That referred to me, and a 19-year old married GIRL who worked with us. To me, 'ladies' implies reading glasses dangling from beaded chains around sagging, non-elastic necks. It summons visions of appliqued clothing, makeup settled into the creases of the face, a calm, even boring demeanor, and very sensible shoes. I have none of those qualities- yet. So please, no 'ladies' or 'women' for me please. I am happy to remain a girl, though and through, although I need to figure out when that would cease to be appropriate. For instance, I don't think that I could be 43 with 3 children, attending soccer games, town meetings (ha!) and helping my kids with their homework (ha-ha!) and still refer to myself as a 'girl'. That would just be misleading and frankly, embarrassing. But for now- I'm sticking with 'girl'.
And on the subject of 'ladies', Bridget calls her period, with all seriousness, 'Lady's Days.' It never ceases to make me laugh. She's so cute. (again, not a 'lady' but a 'girl'. She's too thin to be a 'lady'- it just doesn't jive with me. Yes, I said 'jive'.)

(Sorry- I know it's a large, blurry, and odd picture, but you can really see my strawberry blonde eyebrows! As well as my consternation...)
I still have a hard time believing I am 26. I know that's not terribly old by any means, but I still can't wrap my mind around the fact that I have had 2 children, married going on 5 years, driving a mini-van (!) bought our first house...basically all the crap that I've either gotten myself into or achieved (far more of the former, I am afraid...) doesn't add up in my mind. I don't know when it all happened, or how I got to where I am today. Oh- but how grateful I am that I am here. I wouldn't ever want to go backwards.
So that's what I thought about a minute ago when I opened my email and saw that spam.

Ah the ladies days. That does still make me giggle. Good times.

I went to bed last night with the same thoughts, to the T. How am I almost 26, married for 7 years with a house and 2 kids etc. The U.N. is in full force I say!

But, I do see what you mean about calling yourself a woman, or lady. It just doesn't seem to register in my vocab either. I am a girl or chick or whatever through and through. My mom is a woman. My aunts are ladies. I just don't feel it yet.

Lady's days?? For real? Oh, that Bridget. That is hilarious, and also one I've never heard before.

I can't really call myself a girl anymore. (But that doesn't always stop me.) For one, I do have one of those non-elastic necks now. And I have a child in junior high. But I never know what to call, say, my group of book club friends. When I'm sending a group email, for example. Girls? Ladies? Hey guys? None of it sounds quite right.

I don't know why it is the women and ladies sound so old to me. I'm old and I don't think of myself as either, I will always be a girl.

I'm excited to see pictures of all your hard work. However, I understand, having done it myself, that there is nothing more frustrating than having to live in a home full of drywall dust and construction depris! Also, I tend you use the word "gal" when referring to 20 and 30 somethings...wondering what your thoughts are on that one..??

When sales people or vendors begin calling you Mamm instead of Miss, then you're old!

Miss is always good.....
