5 Years

Yesterday was our 5th anniversary, and we celebrated it up Melting Pot-style. I did some work for my mom and horded the check for our celebratory dinner. We don't get out much, and we'd never been before, so we thought it worthy of the splurge. It was very decadent, and very enjoyable. I couldn't resist taking a picture of our dessert. We decided we'll start saving now so we can go again for our tenth anniversary :)Time is such a tricky thing. In some ways it's hard to believe that it's only been 5 years. It seems like a lot has happened since we've been married: We've had 2 children already, and very shortly a third, we've buried one, we've been to the temple, we've moved several times, but recently across country beginning a new life on our own, Timm's graduated and started his career as a teacher, and we've bought our first house. But of course it's also hard to believe that we've hit this milestone already. I've always loved being married, and I credit most of that to the man that I married. While we were dating Timm was reluctant to marry, but ever since we did I tease him that he was 'made for marrying.' He is a nearly perfect spouse most of the time. He is another one of those people I am blessed to share my company with because his is so easy. He's even- keel where I am volatile, he has a positive attitude where I am more of a realist. He is very demonstrative where I can shut down after so much toddler-touching, resisting any physical touch! He is steady where I am moody and prone to depression.
{our flash photography inside the very dimly-lit restaurant. I don't mind being a little washed out- It smooths out a lot of imperfections...}
In many ways I feel like he's gotten the short end of the stick with marriage partners... He's by no means perfect (like I said, I'm a realist-) but he is much easier to live with than I am. He has to make a lot more accommodations towards me than I do to him- our personalities complement each other, but sometimes I wonder how much he benefits from those concessions. He is also so forgiving of my many faults and shortcomings- to the point where he never points them out or even seems to notice. He tells me daily that he loves me, that he is in love with me, that I am beautiful and sexy (even at my current all-time high pregnancy weight) .His commitment to our family encourages me to strive more to match his goodness and feel worthy to be his spouse. I want to make sure that I am doing all that I can to make him happy and satisfied since he works so hard for our comfort and makes it so easy to live with him. Overall, I couldn't be more blessed. Marriage has been a good thing. I know we have a long stretch ahead of us, for which I am grateful. I know we each have strides to make individually and as a couple and that more difficult times will come, but I will be glad to have this record to refer to in the future.
Happy Anniversary Timmy- its been a good ride so far.

Looks like fun. I've been wanting to try out the melting pot here in Columbus. We celebrated our 5th on Saturday. (I didn't realize we got married on almost the same day!) Congrats!

Great post, Jess. I'm so glad you splurged and went to Melting Pot -- so much more celebratory than the usual. I love the photos of the two of you. (Our date photos are always terrible, I should just go ahead and use the flash.)

It seems crazy to me that it's only been 5 years for you guys, it seems like so much more. And I'm laughing over you saying that Timm has a positive attitude and you're more of a realist. I'm going to remember that the next time I'm being pessimistic...

That is about the most beautiful photo of you I've ever seen! I forgot our anniversaries are so close (our 23rd was on the 26th). I'm going to vie for the Melting Pot next year!

5 is awesome! I am glad you made it special and splurged a little. Loved what you had to say about Timm and your marriage and the roles you play. Realist is a much better word than pessimist- I will use that from now on!
