Vignette

Here is one of my favorite parts of our home lately. It's a little story that has been updated bit by bit since last year, and the sight just makes me happy. I like the combination of color, shapes, textures, and styles. A lot of my home doesn't accurately reflect my aesthetic, but I feel this does pretty well.

I really like affirmations-especially the scads of cool prints found on Etsy and the like. These removable decals were a gift from my mom via petitcollage. Their whole collection is great, so it's worth a look.

How I love my ipod dock. Timm got it for me for Christmas, not knowing that this was precisely the one I wanted! Most docks are not functional decor items, but I love the look of this chrome Skullcandy Pipe. Additionally, it has great sound, pretty good volume, a remote, and can be plugged in or run on batteries. It is in the center of our home so I use it all the time. Highly recommended.

This was inspired by many such prints and even pillows I have seen on Etsy. Ideally, I would like to support those artists and buy directly from them, however I am poor. I am poor, and it is a sentiment I want in my home, and something I am capable of doing myself. So I did.

Pompom flowers! I think these would be great in small groups for a party. Or my piano top.

The top embroidery ('value') was done by Michelle for my word last year, and I love it. The other 3 I did, including our family in birds.

Other items include my favorite poster, which by now approximately 2/3 of the country owns, Keep Calm and Carry On. Still, I love it and I love the color. That was gifted to me by Michelle for my birthday last year and then framed in an Ikea frame. The lamp was a hideous brass one from DI (similar to Goodwill) until it was met with spray paint and a drum shade and became cute. The 'T' is a really cool distressed old sign letter, given to me by my mom, as were the tiny bright green faux flowers in tiny vases.
I might add that most of this was pretty cheap and DIY. Embroidery costs next to nothing, and embroidery is pretty easy. Even if you are not given to hand-sewing, little scraps of fabric are next to free to showcase in an embroidery hoop. The pompoms take just a bit of yarn and sticks from your yard. The Love Is Spoken Here print was free to make, and the frame was a jazzed-up spray paint version of one that didn't quite work for me. (Spray paint can save an amazing number of otherwise ugly or unusable items. It is a mainstay in this household, as you will see.) The lamp was only a couple of bucks, saved again by my trusty sidekick, spray paint. I would also like to remind you that my piano was free, courtesy of Craigslist.

How I love to feather my nest.
On a dime.

Wow Jessie, I don't think I could love this any more. The colors, the grouping, the affirmations. So very you. Here's hoping I can put together a decent vignette in my house someday. I will be coming to you for inspiration for sure.

I couldn't tell those were yarn flowers until you told us. What a clever idea! I can't tell what the top embroidery hoop says?

WAY too cute and happy, I agree.

And just plain good design...can't get a much better combination! I'm so happy my cute daughters love what I love in creating.

So stylish and personal. I love it.

I love this. So much. Ever since I saw (an incarnation of) it in person, I have wanted to create something similar above my piano, but since it is right next to my mantle, I am having trouble feeling like there is not too much stuff everywhere.

You are a style genius.

I swear, you have genius blood pulsing through your veins!! This is downright FABULOUS!! I love the color combo! And don't even get me started on those pom pom flowers!! :)

P.S.--Your dad wore the Sneelock shirt you made him last night...
So cute! I always marvel at how you and Michelle come up with such great gift ideas for your parents (two extremely hard people to buy for!)

I am feeling all sorts of envious of the way those hoops all look on your wall. So freaking cute! I think I need to come up with something like that! I need a color scheme first...that might take me a while.

It's WAY cute--makes me feel like things around my house are getting a little tired. Gift idea for me: the "Love is Spoken Here" framed piece. Just saying'.

This looks great. I think my favorite is the goodwill lamp you re-styled-perfect! Isn't it amazing how one little perfectly styled spot can increase your day-to-day quality of living? I currently don't have such a spot in my house and it is driving me crazy!
