In response to Jill's request, here is a video of Fiona's little raptor cry. (How many times can I say how glad I am that I am blogging while I have a new baby?!) I think Shell defined it best when she said:
"She almost never cries, and even when she does, it's more like a warning system -- something akin to a smoke alarm with low batteries -- one little ping at a time to give you a chance to react."
It's true. She never cries for a sustained period of time, and it hardly ever escalates. She gives a little squeal, then she seems to instantly fall asleep or at least fall into a relaxed and sleepy state. You have a period of time where you are permitted, or expected to respond before you get another ping, another reminder that she is patiently waiting for her needs to be met.
On the way home from the airport today Fiona was hungry and demonstrated this phenomenon. On the rare occasions that she does 'cry', Bella usually covers her face and exclaims that she doesn't like that cry. I asked her if she didn't like it because it was sad, or because it was annoying. Apparently it's annoying. I told Bella we were lucky that Fiona doesn't cry very much and that some babies cry for hours at a time! I decided that Bella would not feel so keenly towards Fiona if she were a crier. I'm pretty sure Bella would promptly deem her an obnoxious interloper and cease to be her adoring fan. It's a good thing for all of us that Fiona is not a crier.

That just makes me laugh. I only wish you could show the longer video which shows the time lapse between raptor cries! Hilarious.
she is beautiful Jessie. I'm glad things went okay and that she is here with you as her great mama. Bella is so dang cute too..I love what she said to Timm before work. You guys are a great little family. Love all the posts!
What a perfect little warning system! That cry is nothing like my babies- so much more petite or something. So funny.
That's totally a raptor cry! I'll have to show this to Whitney since she's our dinosaur expert, she'll totally appreciate this.
I'm glad Fiona is not a cryer, that makes it easier for everyone, plus we really wouldn't want Bella thinking she's an interloper (I love that word).
very cute.
I think that's a first for me--actually cajoling a child to cry, as opposed to, say, smile or laugh. That's too funny! She is so darling. Keep the photos and videos coming!
I love it! And I found it especially funny that you were trying to get her to cry.
Painfully cute. And funny. It's kind a feminine cry! She's a little lady already.
I'm not sure if I enjoyed the baby sounds more or the mother and sister sounds. I guess I love them all.
Good for the future, that's for sure!
That is way cute. Especially for those of us that can hear it on demand only.
