Public Service Announcement

For the sake of your health, your sanity, and your peace with the world as a whole, do not- I repeat, do not-ever look into your garbage disposal without it's protective covering. (You know, the black thing that keeps all your utensils from falling in.) The sight will horrify you. A layer of calcified, petrified food coating the interior and entrance into said disposal. A smell. Even though you run your disposal with diligence after every single use, after any food makes it way into it. Even though you occasionally put soap or citrus rinds in there to freshen things up, albeit apparently not as often as necessary. It is quite possibly an entrance to another dimension, or more probable, the very gates of hell. It's one of life's conveniences that is best left unstudied. Appreciate it in an abstract way, much like indoor plumbing and Sodium Benzoate. (To preserve freshness.)

I totally agree! I have looked into that other dimension and recoiled in horror at what I saw and smelled as well, and I like to think I keep a clean disposal too.

Ah, yes. I have had this experience as well.

Good advice, well taken.

You are so funny! I miss you. I really should come for a visit! I agree that the disposal is gross. Matt had to take ours apart a while back to fix it and it was awful!

Pretty yucky! My husband, the plumber, says that if you run your disposal and dump ice into it, it gets a well deserved cleaning. I do it weekly. Ours never smells but I don't look into it very closely. Sorry you had a bad experience...give this a try and see if it's any better. :)
